A SG50 Themed Dessert Table for Majulah Singapura, Our Golden Jubilee Celebration

Just a week ago, we celebrated our Nation’s 50th birthday over a fun-filled long weekend. Nothing has made us feel more special and honored than to have the opportunity to create a SG50 dessert table setup on National Day itself.

As the lyrics in this year’s National Day theme song, Our Singapore, says

“It isn’t easy building something out of nothing
Especially when the road ahead’s a rocky one
But if we gather all our courage and conviction
And hold our dream up high
The challenge will be won”

These words have indeed described how we exactly felt about creating this dessert table setup. Initially, we were quite uncertain about doing up such a theme because it was something that we have not done before. However, we decided to go ahead with this challenge since our clients are foreigners and we hope that by doing up an impressive table would make us proud as Singaporeans! Furthermore, the reason why we started this candy buffet business is all about living our own dreams and making them happen isn’t it?!! LOL!

Once again, the fresh bakes were from Goobycakes. All thanks to them for working over the long weekend, so as to provide us with the patriotically handcrafted pastries! We are indeed proud to say that the dessert table setup was MADE IN SINGAPORE!

Besides the pastries, we also had star-shaped agar agars which looks like lollipops. We had our supplier to create them with different white letterings to form the words ‘Happy Birthday Singapore’. They were then placed on a stand and displayed as the centerpiece.

As for the candies, we provided a mixture of modern candies and retro sweets such as the White Rabbit milk candy, the fizzy Cola and Sarsi sweets, the iced gem biscuits and the popping candy. The main purpose was to let our clients and their guests savor the taste of our local childhood sweets. It was such a nostalgic feel for us! 😀

Since we wanted the entire setup to be SG related, we included props that resembles the old school dragon playground and elephant slide, which are now hardly found in Singapore. We also had limited edition items such as the Merlion Chou Chous, the ‘Chope’ keychain and mini kopitiam chairs to prop up the table. Besides, we even made use of our Singapore flag and Courtesy Singas that were from our personal NDP fun packs as decorations. Lastly, we included balloons and beach balls with SG50 prints by placing them on the floor next to both sides of the table. As our clients did not opt for a backdrop, so we used the golden ’50’ balloons as a backdrop and centerpiece, which at the same time represented Singapore’s 50th year mark for independence!

This setup was done at our clients’ apartment located at The Sail @ Marina Bay. I must say we were so excited about it, as we had the opportunity to experience the awesome view from their apartment. Although we could not stay to watch the fireworks, the highly anticipated environment made our setup even more meaningful and appropriate because we foresee that our clients and their guests would have had a spectacular view of the NDP fireworks during their party!!!

Styling up this dessert table was an amazing experience for us! We enjoyed this golden jubilee weekend to the fullest and we hope that you have also enjoyed it as much as we did! 🙂
